May Wrap-Up: Major Updates Travel Advisors Need to Know
May was a lot. Meta rolled out new apps, new scheduling tools, new performance data, and even started charging for features that used to just... exist. If you missed any of it, here's everything that happened and what it actually means for your business.
Meta Entered Its Subscription Era With 7 Tiers
This one is not a drill. Meta is rolling out paid plans across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and their AI tools, and there are seven of them. That's a lot to process, so let's break down what each one actually gets you, and whether it's worth your money as an advisor.
Instagram Plus ($3.99/month) is the one with the most practical value if Instagram is your main platform. You get unlimited Story audience lists beyond Close Friends, Story rewatch insights, a searchable Story viewer list, the ability to extend Stories for an additional 24 hours, and the option to post without it showing in your followers' feeds. The rewatch insights alone are worth paying attention to, if you can see what people are rewatching, you know exactly what's actually landing with your audience instead of guessing.
Facebook Plus ($3.99/month) is more about aesthetics and minor engagement features: a custom app icon, Stories extended to 48 hours, Super Reactions, a searchable viewer list, rewatch insights, and the ability to preview Stories without showing up as a viewer. For most advisors, this one can wait. If Facebook is a secondary platform for your business, none of these features are going to move the needle enough to justify the monthly cost.
WhatsApp Plus ($2.99/month) is the most cosmetic of the three app-based plans: premium stickers, app logos, themes, custom ringtones, 20 additional pinned chats, and list customization. Unless you're using WhatsApp heavily to communicate with clients, this one is mostly for fun. The extra pinned chats could genuinely help you stay organized if you're managing a lot of client conversations there, but the rest is just decoration.
Then there's the AI side, which is where things get more interesting depending on how you already work. Meta One Plus ($7.99/month) gets you more monthly AI usage, expanded Thinking mode for deeper reasoning, more video and image generation, and bundled premium features across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Meta One Premium ($19.99/month) is the same idea, just more of it: more usage, more capacity for higher-compute queries, more Thinking mode, more generation. If you're already leaning on Meta AI for captions, content ideas, or research and you keep hitting the free limits, Plus is the smarter starting point. Premium only makes sense once you're actually maxing that out.
The two tiers that matter most if you're trying to grow your brand are the Creator and Business plans. Meta One Essential ($14.99/month) gets you a verified badge on Instagram and Facebook, impersonation protection on both platforms, and an enhanced link sheet to drive people to your website and key destinations. If you're already Meta Verified, it's worth looking into upgrading, it could actually save you money compared to what you're paying now. For advisors building a personal brand, the credibility that badge adds isn't nothing, and impersonation protection matters the moment you have any real following.
Meta One Advanced ($49.99/month) is the one to really watch. It includes everything in Essential, plus reach tools like being featured in Feed on Facebook and higher search ranking on Instagram and Facebook, a Bold Follow Button on Reels, and Follow Invites. On top of that: clickable links in Instagram posts and Reels, enhanced profiles, Competitive Insights on Instagram, Custom Audience Insights on Facebook, optimized scheduling, Original Content Credit alerts, Shared Access, and access to human support. Clickable links in posts and Reels alone would be a massive shift for advisors, and the higher search ranking is something a lot of people have been asking for. At $49.99/month it's a real investment, but for someone actively using social media to grow their travel business, the ROI potential is genuinely there.
The big picture: Meta is moving toward a freemium model. The free apps aren't going away, but the features that actually move the needle for your business, reach, analytics, credibility, AI capacity, are increasingly being bundled into paid tiers.
You don't need to sign up for anything tomorrow, most of this is still rolling out in limited test markets. But your strategy isn't static, and neither is Meta. Keep this one saved so you can revisit it as these tiers go live for you, and think honestly about which one actually matches how you use these platforms, not just which one sounds impressive.
Meta Launched a Standalone App Called Forum
Think Reddit, but built around Facebook Groups. Your groups still live on Facebook exactly where they are now, and anything posted in Forum shows up there too, so it's not replacing anything, just adding a second door into the same conversations. There's also an AI-powered tab where you can ask a question and get answers pulled from across different groups, which is a genuinely interesting way to surface information that would otherwise be buried in old posts and comment threads.
Honestly, it's one more app to keep up with, and it remains to be seen if this one actually sticks or goes the way of Meta's last standalone Groups app, which they quietly shut down back in 2017. If you run a client community or a Facebook group for your business, it's worth keeping tabs on how this develops, deeper, more searchable conversations could genuinely be useful for community building down the line. But for now, it's worth knowing about, not worth restructuring your strategy around. Keep doing what's working in your group and let this one prove itself first.
You Can Finally Schedule Reels With Audio
This has been the biggest gap in scheduling tools for six years, and it's finally fixed.
If you've relied on Instagram's own built-in scheduler, you already know its limitations. You can't schedule Stories or carousels, only Reels. You can't schedule more than 30 days in advance. You can't edit anything once it's scheduled. There's no grid preview, so you're posting somewhat blind to how your feed will actually look. You can't duplicate a scheduled post to reuse it later, and you can't post to other apps from it at all.
That's exactly why a tool like Metricool has been worth using instead, and now there's finally a reason it's even better: for the last six years, the one thing missing was the ability to add music. You couldn't schedule a reel ahead of time with trending audio attached, which meant either posting live in the moment or sacrificing the audio trend entirely. Now, that's changed. You can add specific songs, trending audios, or any other music directly to your reel inside Metricool, no more choosing between scheduling ahead and riding a trending sound.
And that's on top of everything Metricool already does well: scheduling Stories and carousels (not just Reels), planning your content years in advance instead of just 30 days, editing scheduled posts whenever you need to, a full grid preview so you can see exactly how your feed will look, duplicating old posts for easy reuse, and posting across other platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts from the same place. And the best part is that it's free.
If you've been stuck in the cycle of creating a new post every single day, forgetting to post altogether, never reusing content that already performed well, or treating your Instagram like a hobby instead of the business tool it actually is, this is exactly the kind of tool that gets you off that hamster wheel.
Meta Added Two New Scheduling Tools
Meta added two genuinely helpful tools here. The first is a visual Content Planner built right into your Professional Dashboard, so instead of guessing what you've posted or scrambling to remember what's next, you can actually see your whole schedule laid out at a glance. The second is a bulk Reels upload option, so instead of uploading and scheduling one clip at a time, you can batch a whole group of them at once and save yourself the repetitive back and forth.
If consistency and keeping up with posting has been a real struggle for your business, both of these are worth exploring, especially if you're someone who does better with a visual, at-a-glance view of your plan rather than a list. Just keep in mind that Meta's native tool still doesn't support adding trending audio, so this bulk upload option works best for reels using original audio rather than trending sounds. If audio trends are a big part of your strategy, you'll still want to lean on a third-party tool like Metricool for those.
Meta Launched Instants, Its Version of Snapchat
Here's how it works: you open the app, it goes straight to your camera, you take a photo, and it gets sent to your close friends or mutuals. No editing tools, no filters, no pressure to make it look good. The photo disappears once they view it. It also lives inside Instagram itself as a feature, not just as a standalone app, so you can access it directly from your DM inbox without ever leaving the platform you're already on.
This one's more of a heads up than an action item right now. Instants is designed for casual, in-the-moment sharing between people who already know each other, so it's not really a tool for reaching new clients or growing your audience the way Reels or carousels are. But it's still worth knowing about, because Meta keeps expanding what Instagram is capable of, and understanding the full picture of where the app is heading helps you make smarter decisions about where to actually focus your energy. For now, your time is still better spent on the content formats that help you get discovered by new people and build trust with potential clients, not the ones built for chatting with friends who already know you.
Instagram Is Testing Captions Per Carousel Slide
Instead of one caption covering the whole carousel post, this update lets you write a separate caption for each individual slide. As someone swipes through, the caption changes right along with the photo.
Carousels are already one of the best-performing post formats on Instagram, and this update gives you room to add real context slide by slide instead of cramming everything into a single caption up top. You could describe the resort on slide one, the room on slide two, the experience on slide three, and your booking info on the last slide, each slide doing its own job instead of competing for space in one long caption. More context per slide means more reasons for someone to keep swiping, and more reasons for your post to actually hold their attention instead of getting scrolled past.
It's still in testing, so not everyone has had access to it yet, but as of June it's nearly reached everyone. If you don't see it in your posting flow already, keep an eye out, because when it does show up, it's going to change how you should be planning your carousel content from here on out.

Instagram Now Shows You What Its Performance Signals Actually Mean
Instagram is now surfacing deeper performance signals, and organizing them in order of importance, which means you no longer have to guess which numbers actually matter most.
Here's what to pay attention to. If people are skipping quickly, that's telling you your opening isn't strong enough, your hook needs work before anything else about the post matters. If people are sharing your post, that means your content resonated enough that someone chose to send it to a friend or put it on their own story, that's a much stronger signal than a like. If people are saving it, that usually means your content is valuable enough that they want to come back to it later, which is exactly the kind of content worth turning into more of the same. And if people are reposting it out to their own audience, that's the clearest sign your content is genuinely shareable, the kind of post that spreads on its own instead of only reaching the people who already follow you.
This is genuinely useful data, and it's worth actually sitting down with instead of just glancing at your numbers. Use it to figure out which hooks are landing, what topics are worth turning into a series, and where your content might be technically fine but just not compelling enough to make someone stop scrolling.
The Takeaway
May proved one thing: the platforms are not sitting still, and neither should your strategy. New apps, new subscription tiers, new scheduling tools, new data, it's a lot to track, but you don't have to overhaul everything overnight. Pay attention to what actually moves the needle for your business, and let the rest roll out in the background.
